Severe weather can happen quickly, bringing strong winds, heavy rain or snow, flooding, lightning and power outages that may affect internet and other services.
At Sparklight, our teams monitor our network and work to keep customers connected and restore service as safely and quickly as possible when outages occur. Here are a few simple steps you can take to prepare and stay informed before, during and after a storm.
Before the Storm
A little preparation can help you stay connected and informed if severe weather affects your area.
- Sign up for Sparklight outage text alerts. Customers can opt in to receive text notifications when an outage affects their service, along with updates and notification when service is restored.
- Charge your devices. Keep phones, tablets, laptops and portable battery packs fully charged.
- Stay weather aware. Follow local weather forecasts, emergency management agencies and official weather alerts for the latest safety information.
- Make sure your contact information is current. Keeping your Sparklight account information up to date helps ensure you receive important service communications.
- Protect your equipment. Consider using surge protection for modems, routers, computers and other electronics.
- Forward your calls. Consider setting up call forwarding so important calls can still reach you.
If Your Sparklight Service is Interrupted
Severe weather can damage utility poles, fiber, cable and other infrastructure or cause commercial power outages that affect communications networks. If your service is interrupted during a storm:
- Check for an outage using Sparklight’s online outage checker.
- Watch for Sparklight text notifications if you’ve signed up for outage alerts.
- Avoid repeatedly restarting or resetting your modem and other equipment during a known outage.
- Never approach downed lines or damaged utility equipment. Always follow instructions from local emergency officials.
Our teams will work to restore service as conditions allow. In some situations, crews may need to wait until an area is safe to enter or until commercial power has been restored before repairs can be completed.
After the Storm
Once an outage has been resolved, your Sparklight services should typically reconnect automatically. If your power and Sparklight service have been restored but you’re still having trouble connecting, restarting your modem and Wi-Fi equipment may help reestablish your connection.
Storm damage can sometimes affect individual homes even after service has been restored to the surrounding area. If you continue to experience an issue, try our troubleshooting resources below or contact Sparklight for assistance.
